Ninth Street Women

15” x 18” x 3.5” Assembled Cast Glass with Glass Inclusions

These new pieces are portraits of personal heroes: Vivian Maier, the photographer who went her entire life making art without ever experiencing recognition for her work; a young Mary Cassatt as she holds a mysterious key on her lap; Lee Krasner and Helen Frankenthaler, two abstract expressionist painters whose careers were eclipsed by their famous husbands during their lifetimes.

In two other pieces, Trenchard looks to the ancient stories of Medusa and Eve. In casting Eden, What Happened? she opens up an opportunity for humor and questioning the story’s implications

True Story…

“While making Eden, What Happened? I had a runaway snake show up in my studio on my desk while this piece was in process. Can’t help but see that as a portal for a story that is still unfolding.”
